There is an inherent conflict of interest between the motives of the alcohol industry and our health and well-being. Alcohol industry attempts to influence policy are widely recognised as a commercial determinant of alcohol-related harm.
Alcohol multinationals aim to spread disinformation about alcohol-related harm through promoting inaccurate research. With i-Mark Global, we are seeking to engage academics and researchers in a conversation about why independent research matters and what individual researchers can do to resist these attempts.
The evidence is now unequivocal industry influence biases research and harms public health. Signing this pledge is both an act of hope and of resistance.
