A Pledge, A Set of Commitments, A Symbol of Resistance

There is an inherent conflict of interest between the motives of the alcohol industry and our health and well-being. Alcohol industry attempts to influence policy are widely recognised as a commercial determinant of alcohol-related harm.

Alcohol multinationals aim to spread disinformation about alcohol-related harm through promoting inaccurate research. With i-Mark Global, we are seeking to engage academics and researchers in a conversation about why independent research matters and what individual researchers can do to resist these attempts.

The evidence is now unequivocal industry influence biases research and harms public health. Signing this pledge is both an act of hope and of resistance.

2020

Movement Founded

The Irish Community Action on Alcohol Network and Alcohol Forum Ireland launched a sustained campaign to challenge the damaging influence of the alcohol industry on health and policy.

2025

Extended Globally

The i-Mark was extended as a global movement to protect the independence of research and academic communities worldwide.

June 2025

First Global Signing

Twenty-two academics and researchers from across several countries became the first group to sign and adopt the i-Mark Global pledge at an event in Dublin.

Growing International Membership

Over thirty academics and researchers from across the globe, supported by an international steering group committed to growing this movement for independence.
